Live Videos of STJ

Jones'ing for St John already??

You're not alone my friend

And while we still have to wait 9 long short months until the wedding weekend, we can get a quick fix from Live video feed's on the island!

Cruz Bay: This is the dock where you'll be coming in on the ferry from St Thomas. See happy travelers as they first step foot on the dock of St John!

Chocolate Hole: hehe

Our beloved Annapolis dock bar, Pussers, originated in the BVI's. This cam is on their dock and our BVI's tour will likely bring us to this very spot, so you can share the link with friends and family and have them keep a lookout for you!

Taxi's & Fares on St John

For those of you not renting cars for your stay, and it is not a requirement, I've provided some info on the Taxi situation on STJ (how cool people abbreviate St John).

If you would like to rent a car, I'll be posting more info on that shortly. I know, you're all waiting with baited breath.

Taxis on St. John are not metered; rates are per person and per destination and are set by the VI Taxicab Division. Taxi Rate Sheets are provided below and will also be included in your Welcome Bag when you arrive.

The most popular taxi vehicle used on STJ is the open air safari bus. In addition to being uber stylish, they allow unobstructed views of the island as you're riding. I've been told Hitchhiking is also a very safe, common occurrence on STJ, but I'm not going to go as far as to 'recommend' it.

Taxi Tips
  • Taxis are almost always available at the ferry dock in Cruz Bay (during regular ferry schedule hours) and also at most beaches. They frequently wait for passengers at  the taxi stand area at Trunk Bay and Cinnamon Bay.
  • Licensed taxi vehicles are labeled with: a taxi placard or dome light on the roof, license plates that indicate Taxi status, On Duty/Off Duty sign in the window of the vehicle and a sign, usually on the fender, indicating passenger capacity. The drivers personal identification/taxi license should be on the vehicles dash board.
  • Although rates are standardized it is recommended that you speak to the driver and agree to your total rate (for you, your group, your luggage, waiting, tour) before boarding the taxi.
  • Many taxis are multi-destination and some can carry up to 26 passengers; drivers will often wait to fill their vehicle before departing (particularly from the ferry dock and popular beach locations like Trunk Bay and Cinnamon Bay).
  • See the Special Provisions Section after the rate sheets for sightseeing tour rates, luggage rates, private taxi rates, weekly rates and other information.

To note, all of the accommodation options we'll be sending out will be located in Cruz Bay. This is the "downtown" of St John and we want to make sure you all are walking distance to the bars, restaurants and taxi's, so that renting a car is not a requirement. A few of us will be renting cars so carpooling together will be an option too.

Do I need a Passport to go to St John?

No.

Since St John is part of the US Virgin Islands you do not need a passport to come or go.

However, if you were planning on doing any excursions or day trips to the BVI's* you will need a Passport.

For those of you that already have a passport, please make sure to check the expiration date.

*We will likely be chartering a catamaran for a tour of the BVI's on Monday, which will take us to The Baths (Google it), various islands and snorkeling spots, and beach bars throughout the BVI's. If you're interested in joining us for this trip - and we hope you are - more information on pricing, etc. will be coming shortly.

Tentatively, $200pp is the estimate we've received for a full day charter, including breakfast and all-you-can drink painkillers, rum punch and other alcohol. This price also includes tax, tip for the captain and crew, and an international fee.

Good times guaranteed. Need proof?

So, why a destination wedding and why St John?

Valid question, y'all.

Why would Dave and I decide to impose upon our immediate family and closest friends the "burden" of going to paradise? having them bask in the warm Caribbean sun after months of cold Mid-Atlantic winter weather. splashing in the crystal blue waters as warm and predator-free as your bathtub (no, sharks do not exist in the Caribbean and do not try to tell me otherwise). snuggling their toes in the soft, white sandy beaches while quenching their thirst with a frosty adult beverage?

because we're cruel sadistic people, obviously.

All joking aside, this decision came to us after we began asking ourselves the questions most newly engaged couples ask "what do we really want out of our wedding? what do we want this experience to be like, to represent, and how do we want our friends and family to remember it?".
First off, we want this to be a celebration, not only of us solidifying our love and commitment to each other, but also to show our mutual love and appreciation for those closest to us. Relationships aren't easy, whether that be with significant others, family members or friends, and we feel that without each and every one of your support, guidance and understanding along the way, we wouldn't be where we are today. And that's worth celebrating!

Secondly, when we were in the USVI's for Dave's birthday/New Years we kept saying, "oh I wish this person were here to experience this", or "that person would love to see this", and "man, I wish so-and-so were here". Because you always want to share the joy you find in life with the people you care most about. So we consider having a destination wedding basically like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to go on vacation with all the people you love - AND have them all there to witness one of the most special days of your life!
So to us, its a win/win
St John was one of our favorite islands in the USVI's, it's small and quaint, has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world...and wild donkeys. so we were both pretty much in immediate agreement that it would be the perfect place to hold our dream destination wedding :)

And please don't think we didn't heavily consider the financial burden we know our decision puts on all of you, because we absolutely did. We I shed a tear or two over the weight of the decision, because we understand that some of you will be unable to attend (though not for a lack of desire), but in the end we know whether you can physically be there or not, your well-wishes and love will be with us wherever we chose to get married. And for that we will be forever greatful.

Love,
taken at Trunk Bay on St John
